Steinburg Castle (Schloss Steinburg) stands above the famous Würzburger Stein vineyard in the Grombühl district. The Würzburg architect and builder Andreas Pfannes erected the castle-like building in 1897 and 1898 in a Gothic-inspired style: a three-storey complex of rusticated limestone masonry with oriels, projections and towers with conical and pyramid roofs.
The house was originally the clubhouse of the artists’ society “Roßperger”. Around 1900 the wine merchant J. W. Meuschel bought it and named it “Schloss Steinburg”. The building was simplified in 1937. It has been used as a hotel since 1958, and in 2012 the conference centre “Refugium” was added. The building is a listed monument.
