It was designed by Wesermünde’s city architect Wilhelm Eduard Kunz and Heinrich Mangel, head of Bremerhaven’s building department. It was built in 1927 in 15 months at a cost of 420,000 Reichsmark.
The 33-metre tower has eight storeys. It is a reinforced-concrete frame clad in clinker brick, in the style of Brick Expressionism with elements of the New Building movement. At the top are two reinforced-concrete tanks holding 1,500 cubic metres in total; below them, five residential floors contain 24 two- and three-room flats. At the time it was built, it was the first high-rise building on the Lower Weser. It has been a listed monument since 1978.
